Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, John Berendt

“I simply loved this book,” she says with a syrupy Georgia accent.

Such fun, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. Filled with extraordinary visual pictures about a time and people where appearances mattered more than even money. Set in Savannah, a reporter follows the life of social elite, antique dealer, Jim Williams for the shooting death of male prostitute Danny Hansford. If that’s not enough entertainment, through in the eccentric Prentiss Crowe, transgender hottie, The Lady Chablis, and throw in lavish parties at Mercer House and how could this book be anything other than a runaway - and it is.

I was surprised to learn this was Mr. Berendt’s first novel, I believe it sold something like twenty-five million copies and has been turned into a star-studded movie.

Not terribly faced paced, and laced with a bunch of hoity-toity expressions and flowery words that sometimes leaves the reader feeling like a dictionary on standby isn’t a bad idea, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil is worth the time. Personally, I thoroughly enjoyed this one.
