Beneath a Scarlet Sky, Mark T. Sullivan

Fabulous book!

Set in Milan Italy, this historical fiction recounts a virtually unknown, completely unsung hero, Peno Lella, and his time as a youth in the resistance during WW2. Peno, along with a priest, a want-to-be racecar driver, and a few other humanitarians, help save dozens of people from certain death from the Nazis.

Peno and his band of helpers, help Jewish people out of Italy by means of scaling the Alps to safety. It is filled with vivid imagery, thought-provoking dialogue, and young love; the book fills my cup in all aspects and has become one of my all-time favorites.

I can say, as a voracious reader of the time period, this one was refreshing and educational.
